About The House of Matthew

Built on Dignity. Sustaining Community Through Care.

“In Washington, the total number of people experiencing homelessness increased to and estimated  22,173 in early 2025, a 4.4% rise from the previous year. We’re happy to be apart of the solution one person at a time with Permanent & Supportive Services” – The House of Matthew

Who We Are

The House of Matthew is a community-based organization providing permanent and supportive services designed to restore stability, dignity, and opportunity. For more than 20 years, we have served individuals and families across Pierce County and Washington State with care that is practical, compassionate, and rooted in accountability.

Our work is guided by a simple belief: meaningful support must meet people where they are while creating pathways toward long-term stability. We exist not to offer one-time solutions, but to walk alongside people as they rebuild, grow, and move forward.

Rooted in a community-driven mission and our “Never Stop Doing Good” principle, The House of Matthew is committed to helping residents build stability and move forward. Through innovative programs, meaningful partnerships, and trusted support networks, we respond to real needs with purpose, care, and accountability.

Our Mission

To provide permanent and supportive services that strengthen individuals, families, and communities through dignity-centered care, responsible stewardship, and community partnership.

Our Vision

We envision communities where stability is attainable, essential needs are accessible, and every person is treated with respect, dignity, and opportunity.

How We Serve

The House of Matthew offers a range of services that address both immediate needs and long-term stability, including:

  • Permanent and supportive housing services

  • Education and life-skills programming

  • All purpose clothing closet serving the whole family
  • Furniture and mattress assistance

  • Community support and resource navigation

Our programs are designed to reduce barriers, strengthen independence, and support individuals and families as they work toward sustainable outcomes

A Community-Driven, Responsible Model

Being community-driven means our programs are guided by mission, accountability, and long-term community benefit—not individual preference. We listen with care, make decisions transparently, and design services to remain accessible, fair, and sustainable for everyone we serve.

Nearly 95% of our funding comes from donors, partners, board leadership, and community supporters. This independence allows us to remain responsive, adaptable, and focused on outcomes rather than bureaucracy. Public funding represents a small portion of our overall support and does not determine our mission or approach.

Shared Investment, Shared Responsibility

We believe dignity includes personal investment and accountability. For select programs—such as our education initiatives and furniture and mattress warehouse—participants contribute a small percentage of associated costs. This shared-investment approach supports sustainability, promotes ownership, and ensures resources remain available to serve the broader community.

Policies related to eligibility and cost-sharing are applied consistently and fairly to protect access and ensure long-term impact.

More Than Services—A Community

At The House of Matthew, those we serve are not defined by their circumstances. Many individuals who receive support go on to give back by volunteering their time, sharing their skills, and supporting others in the community. This cycle of care strengthens our programs and reinforces the belief that everyone has value and something to contribute.

Celebrating achievement and growth through education and support.

Our Leadership & Partnerships

The House of Matthew is governed by engaged board members and led by experienced professionals committed to ethical stewardship and community impact. We collaborate with local organizations, businesses, faith communities, and civic partners to expand access, strengthen services, and build sustainable solutions.

Partnerships with The House of Matthew are grounded in shared values, transparency, and a commitment to long-term community well-being.

Our Commitment

We are committed to:

  • Treating every individual with dignity and respect

  • Using resources responsibly and transparently

  • Delivering services that are effective, fair, and sustainable

  • Remaining accountable to the community we serve
